My Home

I have a difficult time choosing one particular place that I can define as my home. My dad was transferred around quite a few times when I was growing up, so I have lived in a variety of different places. When I think about my home, I wonder is it the home where I lived when I was first born, it is one of the many houses in the many different states that I lived in growing up, is it my apartment that I live in with my roommates, or is it the place that my parents and my younger brother currently live now?

I think that the place I can best consider my home is the place where my parents, my younger brother, and my dog currently live. I consider this place to be my home because although I only lived there for my last two years of high school, home to me is where my family is. My home is a single-family four-bedroom home in Howard County, Maryland. It has a brick front, black shutters and a black door, a large tree in the front yard, and a big backyard with a deck, and a lacrosse net where my little brother practices. As I previously stated, I did not spend a significant part of my life living their full time, but because that is where my family is, that is the place that I go when I go home. It may not be the house I lived in when I was playing outside with my friends, where I learned how to ride a bike, or even learned how to drive, but there are many other aspects of home that I associate with this house. I lived in this house when I graduated from high school, it is where I go to pick up my mail, it is the place I go when I am sick, and it is the place I go when I go home for the holidays.

My home is a place that I feel very comfortable and a place where I feel like I can completely be myself, as I know that those who live in the house, my family, will love me no matter what. When I am at home I do not feel the need or the pressure to look or act a certain way, because it is a comfortable place with familiar people. Even if I go to my home during the day when everyone else is at work or school, it is still my home because my dog, Zoe, is there, and I always know that she will be so excited to see me as soon as I walk inside. From my point of view, home is the place where I can feel comfortable, familiar, and safe, and regardless of how many other places I have called home in my life, my true home will always be the place where my family lives.
